This policy applies to both the nz.social landing page and waitlist, and the nzee.social social networking platform.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Waitlist & Referral System (nz.social)
When you join our waitlist or referral programme, we collect:
- Name and email address — to contact you about your account
- IP address — for fraud prevention and anti-gaming protection
- Referral data — who referred you and who you refer, for competition tracking
- Google account information — if you sign up via Google OAuth (name, email, profile picture)
2.2 Social Platform (nzee.social)
When you create an account and use the platform, we collect:
- Account information — username, email address, password (encrypted with bcrypt)
- Profile information — display name, bio, profile picture, location (optional)
- Content you create — posts, comments, messages, photos, marketplace listings
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device information
- Usage data — features used, pages visited, interactions
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not track you across other websites
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers
- We do not collect financial or payment information

4. Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data stays in New Zealand.
- Primary servers — located in Matamata, New Zealand, operated directly by TRYZEE LIMITED
- Media storage — Cloudflare R2 object storage (profile pictures, uploaded images)
- Backups — encrypted and stored locally in New Zealand
We do not transfer your personal data outside New Zealand except where explicitly noted in Section 5 (third-party services).
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services. Each processes limited data as described:

6. Data Sharing
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever.
We may share your information only in these limited circumstances:
- With other users — your public profile, posts, and marketplace listings are visible to other platform users according to your privacy settings
- Service providers — the third-party services listed in Section 5, under strict data processing agreements
- Legal requirements — when required by New Zealand law, court order, or government agency request
- Safety — to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public
7. Cookies & Local Storage
We use minimal cookies and browser storage:

8. Data Retention
- Active accounts — data retained while your account is active
- Deleted accounts — personal data deleted within 90 days of account deletion; some data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 12 months
- Waitlist entries — retained until you request removal or your account is created
- Server logs — IP addresses in access logs retained for 30 days, then automatically purged
- Legal holds — data may be retained longer if required by NZ law or active legal proceedings
9. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Encryption in transit — all connections use HTTPS/TLS
- Encryption at rest — passwords hashed with bcrypt; sensitive fields encrypted with AES-256
- Access controls — strict role-based access; admin access requires approval
- Infrastructure — servers secured with firewalls, fail2ban, and regular security updates
- Content scanning — uploaded files scanned for malware using ClamAV
- Account protection — two-factor authentication (2FA) available for all accounts
If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the NZ Privacy Commissioner as required by the Privacy Act 2020.
10. Your Rights Under NZ Law
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of all personal information we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
- Data portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
- Object — object to specific processing of your information
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@nzee.social. We will respond within 20 working days as required by the Privacy Act 2020.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
11. Children’s Privacy
NZ Social is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.
Users aged 13–17 should have parental or guardian consent before using the platform.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:
- The "Last updated" date at the top will change
- Material changes will be notified via email to registered users
- Changes take effect 30 days after posting, unless required sooner by law
Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
