Real answers from the person who built this. No corporate speak, no fluff.

Honestly? Right now I'm not. I provide IT services in Matamata, including phone repairs and software updates. And 3 to 5 times every single week someone walks into my shop with their phone completely locked up — wall-to-wall pop-ups from dodgy ads they accidentally clicked. "Your storage is full." "Recover your deleted photos." Most of the time it's an elderly person standing there looking embarrassed.

I got tired of fixing the same problem and sending people back out to the same environment that broke them in the first place. So I built something.

Long term — yeah, there'll probably be a premium tier one day, and maybe local business advertising that's fair and opt-in. But that's not why I built this, and it's not what I'm focused on right now.

I just wanted Kiwis to have somewhere that isn't trying to scam them.

There's no catch. Zero fees to list, zero fees when you sell. What you earn is yours, full stop.

We're not taking a cut of your sales, we're not charging listing fees, and we're not selling your data to advertisers. The platform is free to join and free to use.

Your data stays in New Zealand, on New Zealand servers. It is not sold to advertisers, it is not shared with overseas companies, and it is not used to build a profile to sell things to you.

You control who sees your content. We're building this with privacy as a foundation, not an afterthought.

Trade Me charges 7.9–15% on every sale. We charge nothing.

Facebook is built to keep you scrolling through ads, sells your data to the highest bidder, and has no interest in your community's wellbeing.

NZ Social combines the social connection of Facebook with the buy-and-sell of Trade Me — but it's owned by a Kiwi, built for Kiwis, and the people using it come first. Not the advertisers.

We're rolling out invite codes to waitlist members first. When you sign up you'll get a personal referral link and a dashboard to track your spot.

The more people you refer, the higher you climb — and the top referrer wins $1,000 cash (second place gets $500). Competition closes April 30th, 2026.

Founding members get early access, a Founding Member badge, and premium features locked in free.

Fair question. If we ever wind down, we'll give users advance notice, the ability to export their data, and we will never sell your data to a third party as part of any shutdown. That's a commitment, not small print.

But we're not planning to wind down — we're planning to grow. Nearly 1,000 Kiwis are already on the waitlist and we haven't even launched yet.

This is actually one of the reasons I built it. A huge part of our community — especially older New Zealanders — are being left behind or actively exploited by complicated, predatory platforms.

NZ Social is designed to be clean, simple, and safe. No pop-ups telling you to click things. No confusing settings that trick you into sharing your data. If you can use a smartphone, you can use this.
